English in the junior year of high school is an intensive study of American literature with an emphasis on the analysis of literature through critical reading and writing. The course is designed to move the student through each American literary period by exposing the student to novels, plays, poetry, essays and short fiction specific to that period. In addition, students will be required to compose many analytical compositions on the literature they read. These compositions will be written both outside of class and during timed in-class sessions. Also, all students are required to complete an acceptable MLA based research project before moving on to their 12th grade English requirement. Students will also utilize an advanced vocabulary program throughout the course, and appropriate technology will be integrated into the curriculum of this course to help prepare students for Advanced Placement or Honors English in the senior year.
